BOXES AND ENVELOPES are a special category of origami. There have been many many books on them. I don't have an exhaustive library on it(yet), but what I do have and know about are on this page. This page does NOT have things like Pop-up Cards - I stuck those in the KIRIGAMI page. In order to bring up the page for boxes and envelopes, just click:

FRIEDRICH WILHELM AUGUST FROEBEL(1782 - 1852) was a German educator famous for developing a curriculum for kindergardens still used today. The thing he is best known for among origami historians are the Basic Forms he devised about 150 years ago to introduce young children to origami. Mr. Kasahara shows a beautiful plate of 42 models on page 43 of Jiturei mansai! Koko made dekiru origami no miryoku to fushigi(The Art and Wonder of Origami). |

Origami in MAGIC is neither common nor uncommon. I believe the earliest books on money folding come from this craft. I've seen origami used in various acts off and on as far back as I can remember, but I only know of a handful of books. I've started this page because I'm keenly interested in learning more, and often when I start a page, I get contacted by people who are equally interested, who know different bits than I know, and after a while all our bits turn into something really interesting and wonderful. I worked with a small stage magician, Armand DeBeque(1912-1998) in junior high school, and with a big stage magician, Max Armstrong(Jan 20, 1933 - Dec. 14, 2018) for a memorable tour in 1985. Both men were historians, along with everything else they were - and both men led amazing lives. Armand kept the town's history that was founded by his father. Max kept the history of magic, and I believe had the largest and most important library on magic in the world. One of my true regrets is not having the wherewithal to offer to catalog Max's library for him before he passed away. I know he made arrangements for his library - he was that kind of man - but I do not know where it ended up. This humble page is dedicated to Max's memory, whose love of magic and its craft is unsurpassed by anyone, ever. In order to bring up the pop-up page, just click:

MONEY FOLDING (also listed as DOLLAR BILL ORIGAMI) is an unusual sub-genre of origami that took root in the USA in a significant enough way for it to need a dedicated page. My rule of thumb is if there have been published at least 10 books on an identifiable subset, they get their own page. In order to bring up the pop-up page, just click:

JOHN MONTROLL is prolific enough he gets his own page. His career spans many decades, and his books are fun and easy to use.
