Tom Angleberger
Before I send a book to a neice or nephew, I read it to make sure it's something I think they would enjoy. I am planning on sending a set of these to a neice, so I picked up the first one, and then I bought the rest. These are a load of fun, and in the back of each is a tutorial for making some of the finger puppets for yourself. If you want to share your love of origami with a young person, this is a terrific way to do it. The series is one long story, so they do need to be read in order of publication.
The story is about a group of 7th graders and a weird kid, Dwayne, who starts dispensing advice through a finger puppet called Origami Yoda. The books are set up as case files, where different kids tell different parts of the story as it unfolds. It is a funny, charming story about growing up, and promotes problem solving, the responsibilities of friendship, and the power of origami.
