JOHN DARCY NOBLE
March 21, 1923 - Sept. 21, 2003

From the jacket of his lovely book "A Treasury of Beautiful Dolls"... "John Noble was born and raised in Brockley, on the outskirts of London, and studied art and design at Goldsmith College, London University. He was an art teacher and stage designer and had one-man shows in Paris and London. He came to America in 1960 and has never returned to England. Asked to authenticate an important doll collection offered to the Museum of the City of New York, Mr. Noble eventually became curator of the museum's toy collection. He has entertained a lifelong interest in antique playthings and here presents his extensive knowledge of dolls in an entertaining and original album. Mr. Noble is also the author of "Dolls" (Collectors Blue Book Series)."

Thank you to Val Copley, whose interest and knowledge of this doll expert got me interested in building a page for him. Mr. Noble was not only very knowledgeable about antique toys, but was also artistic in his own right, and created a series of paper dolls that are sought after by collectors. Val helped fill in some gaps in the bibliography. All mistakes are still my own.
