Title: Old and New Designs in Tatting and Crochet Braids: Book No. 4
SUMMARY- The first half of this booklet is tatting - this startled me because usually crochet gets precedent and the tatting is often an afterthought. I got excited over this booklet as well because I cleared up a mystery(albeit a small one). There is a parasol tatting pattern in this booklet that I believe was reprinted in the Spring 1987 issue of "Old Time Crochet". OTC didn't cite their source, and the picture was so bad you couldn't really see the tatting. The photo isn't much better in this booklet, and OTC started out on House of White Birches' cheap newsprint, so quality of the photo had nowhere to go but down. It is still grand to find out where it had come from! There are some fairly elaborate patterns in this booklet: 2 pages of very basic edgings, 3 pages of more elaborate edgings, the parasol(done in black French silk - one of the reasons why it doesn't show well in the photo), (2)shirt waist insertion, tie, gorgeous Collar, Centerpiece, several Medallions, Medallion with coronation braid(I recently got to see a sample of antique coronation braid - it made me think of the love child between chenille stems and Q-tips...), Medallion insert for pillow, 2 baby caps, jabot, Handkerchief Braid and tatting, and Scarf Rose Design. |
