SUMMARY- There were a a small handful of tatting patterns tucked near the end of the book, unheralded, along with a small handful of more crochet patterns combined with that old friend, the turtle novelty braid. All of the patterns are in written notation, and I am not familiar enough with crochet and knitting instruction to tell you whether the notation is comparable to its contemporaries.
*There is a story given with pattern No. 15, Alice and Willie Lace. "Willie was a young man and superintended the factory where the Twilled Lace Thread is made. After a time he went back to his old hill top home, where both were born, and brought back Alice, his favorite schoolmate, as his wife. Alice was assisting Miss Arnold in preparing this book, when her work on this pattern was interrupted by a visit to their old home. While there, both were, without warning, killed at a railroad crossing. No name but "Alice and Willie" would be proper for this pattern, and no words but the beautiful ones in which David laments the death of Saul and Jonathan, can fitly tell the feelings of all who knew them. They were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided."
