SUMMARY- I finally found an original copy of Norma's first book...in South Africa! It's a second edition, but appears to have all the same pages as the first edition. The exquisite table cloth that launched Norma's designing career is featured on the front cover. A friend of Norma's had borrowed it for a function she was giving, and the editor of "Home Beautiful" happened to be a guest. The editor was so taken with the original design that she tracked down Norma and asked her to write up the pattern for her magazine. Norma's tatting articles were so popular that the publisher felt a need to collect and reprint them in this book format - on four separate occasions. We know by the second edition that this one went back to print at least twice. It was the first of a series of four books of Norma's work that "Home Beautiful" published. This is the only one I've been able to find so far.
I don't know if the supplement insert was part of the first edition. This book has an embroidery transfer sheet that came as part of the supplement. The transfer has some baby embroidery designs and a monogram set(mine has one of the motifs cut out). The instructions are in written notation, which was the standard of the time. Most of the designs incorporated linen to help stretch the workers' scarcer supply of suitable tatting threads. There are over 60 patterns in the book.
