SUMMARY- There is great photography, large print so I don't have to squint, and she uses written notation with lots of extra notes to make tatting the patterns easier for people who haven't been doing it for years. I wasn't wild about the dark purple paper - it makes the patterns harder to read. She doesn't provide diagrams or symbolic notation, though, so non-English speakers may have problems following the patterns if they are not experienced enough. I'd been looking for a book of mini-tats that I could recommend that was still in print - so happy I ran across this one. The mini-tats are all Christmas themed (and a Star of David!). I especially loved the three Christmas trees. I think they'd make great earrings as well as ornaments. She sticks to traditional tatting techniques, so this would be a fantastic book for a beginner to get. There's quick reward and you won't get tired of the designs for sticking in notes, using as jewelry, and making as a quick gift for a friend.
