SUMMARY- The Oval Doily employs onion rings as flower petals and a dense border outline with lots of lacy chains as edging. There is a lot of open space employed in the design, so I would imagine it makes up quicker than one would ordinarily expect given the dimensions(it's the oval doily at the bottom right of the cover). The Rick Rack Doily is a lot denser, but is also made up primarily of chains. It imitates crochet pretty closely. I don't think most people would realize it wasn't crochet without looking at it closely. I have the Canadian edition of this booklet, and they sometimes differed from their American cousin.
Note from Leigh: I found out through Issue No. 11(Apr/May 1996) of KNOTS! that the designer of most of the patterns(especially the collars and cuffs, luncheon sets) in many of the J&P Coats booklets around this time period was Helen McAllister of Glenside, Pennsylvania!
