SUMMARY- I'm always instantly skeptical when someone uses words like "Encyclopedia," "Compendium," or "Complete" on the cover of their book. I'm often disappointed. Not with this one. It "completely" ROCKS! You get great coverage of a ton of varieties of patchwork - with projects to try it out on, then great coverage of all the types of applique - with projects to try them out on. They aren't bland, boring projects either. They've all got some sparkle in their steps. Ms. Dobson's instructions are clear and easy to follow, with plenty of illustration to help you along. The only area I thought might have been beefier was the borders section, but I think she gives you enough there to feel confident. I usually only expect this sort of thoroughness from a Chilton book. Ms. Dobson did a superior job. If I were looking to put together a present of books for someone I thought might get into quilting, this would be in the stack.
