SUMMARY- It's clear that Ms Causee is a very talented and prolific designer with at least 35 books to her credit(that I've found cited so far). There is a very well diagrammed basic tutorial on foundation-piecing near the beginning that I had no trouble at all following. I love the look of applique, but like my mother, don't have the patience to do it. This book has finally tipped me over into believing this is my reasonable compromise. I LOVE blocks that can be recognized for what it is supposed to represent. If someone showed me a quilt with lots of triangles, I'd never have that "Aha!" moment of that's "Flying Geese" or "Ocean Waves" or "Delectable Mountains." My mind is too literal for that. But someone who is clever enough to arrange those triangles into the picture of a flower? That I can get. Don't get me wrong - I've seen many of the aformentioned classic quilts that have awestruck me with their flow of color, geometric precision and vibrancy.
The patterns are all for 7" blocks. There was no Table of Contents, so I constructed one so I could list all the blocks. Blocks #1 through 16 are on the front cover! 25-30 or so of these blocks are based on classic traditional patchwork(there's a run of log cabin variants for example), but the vast majority represent some plant, animal or object. I was very pleased with the variety and quality of patterns in this book.
