SUMMARY- I normally will buy a book(or kit) when I see "dragon" in the ToC - I collect origami dragon models. While I do like the dragon(and unicorn) in this book by Mr. Nguyen, it was actually the section of tessellations that caught my eye. I had seen a checkerboard tessellation done, complete with a folded chess set, in Mr. LaFosse and Mr. Alexander's "Origamido", and my heart was filled with lust. This book has a checkerboard tessellation, so I had to have it. The author says it is the simplest tessellation, and I believe him, but it doesn't look that simple to me. The author used a preprinted sheet of paper that gave him the black-and-white checkerboard (there were black squares printed equidistant on one side of the paper that folding brought into contact with each other at the corners). Despite this set back, I'm still intrigued. The set doesn't just come with paper - it also comes with creasing tools! I particularly liked the papers that came with this set. I don't think they'll scan and reprint well, but it's worth a shot. The box is fairly sturdy construction with a slide-out tray and the swing closure has a magnet catch and satin ribbon loops for easier handling. This would make a magnificent gift for someone you thought might develop and interest in origami.
