Title: The Book of Teddy Bear Making: A comrehensive project book and reference to making traditional and innovative bears, in all shapes, sizes and materials
Author: Gillian Morgan
Publication Date: HC:1998
Publisher: Chartwell Books, Inc., Edison, NJ
Page Count: 192
Book Dimensions(ht. x w.): 11" x 8 1/2"
ISBN: 0785808868
PATTERN RATING: Pattern pieces have some markings(but aren't individually labeled for the bear), with instructions on how much to enlarge them on a photocopy machine. It may be a little difficult with some of the patterns to get a clean undistorted photocopy because they are too near the ditch. You get a huge variety - all very different from each other. I don't like the bearskin rug here as much as I love Carolyn V. Hall's, but it still brought a smile to my face. Patterns are collected all in the back of the book, not with the bear instructions.
INSTRUCTION RATING: Instructions are good for someone who knows what they are doing. Complete novices may get lost, as there isn't quite enough illustration, and there is a lot of flipping between sections to read the instructions, look at the bear(and repeat as needed).
BONUS MECHANICS RATING: There is a whole lot originality in this book, and I think it will spark ideas and give you ambitions, so she gets an extra star.
SUMMARY- This doesn't beat Carolyn V. Hall's "The Teddy Bear Craft Book" for me, but it is in that stratosphere. You get a huge variety of very diverse bears and adjacent projects. If you love bear making, this is definitely a must-have.
