Title: Felt Dolls to Make and Dress
Author: Peggy Tearle
Publication Date: TPB:1958(first edition!)
Publisher: Dryad Press, Leicester, UK
Page Count: 58
Book Dimensions(ht. x w.): 8 1/2" x 5 1/2"
ISBN: None
PATTERN RATING: Patterns for clothing are full-size on a nice separate sheet(make sure it is still with the copy you buy). The felt dolls are made using a tennis ball and squares of felt cut to the right sizes. I mentally braced myself when I saw there was a gollywog in this one, but while you get instructions for making one, you aren't subjected to a picture of it - a bit odd as you do get a black-and-white photo of all the other dolls wearing different outfits and with the dog or pony.
INSTRUCTION RATING: Instructions do have some illustration to back them up, but I'm not sure enough to get a complete novice through the process - especially with the drift of language after 60 years.
SUMMARY- I liked this book, despite the inclusion of a gollywog. The clothing patterns work really well for the dolls, and you can get more personality into these dolls than you might think, judging from the photos.
