Title: Woodland Animals for You to Make
Author: Rudi L. de Sarigny
Publication Date: TPB:1965;1977
Publisher: Dryad Press, Leicester, UK
Page Count: 32, separate folded pattern sheet
Book Dimensions(ht. x w.): 8 1/4" x 5 3/4"
ISBN: 0852190492
PATTERN RATING: . The patterns are full-size on a separate sheet of folded paper, use the a-b-c method of marking, and don't show seam allowances. The pattern pieces are identified individually so you won't get confused. They look good made up and are easily identifiable as the animal represented with good detail. There is a black-and-white photo of each toy made up for reference.
INSTRUCTION RATING: . The instructions are thorough but not always easy to follow - and there are very few illustrations for making up the toys themselves. An experienced toy maker won't have any problem, but someone just starting out will doubtless have questions.
SUMMARY- You get six solid designs that are detailed enough to represent the animals indicated. This book is now very hard to find - it took me years to find a copy I could afford and it went through at least seven printings! Dryad Press simply didn't publish bad craft books, and Mrs. de Sarigny was a notable lecturer and teacher on the subject of toy design. I knew I had to have this one, and I wasn't disappointed, but there are easier ways to find patterns for the animals in this collection that will suit your needs.
