SUMMARY- Ms. Takashima has her own specialized hook needles to use in making this form of tatting. Japanese Hook Tatting is another hybrid form of tatting that was developed and copyrighted by Ms. Takashima. Hook tatting uses a double ended takashimabari hook developed by Ms. Takashima, not a bullion hook(as for crochet). She sells these hooks as sets from her website. The books have diagrams that can be followed, but her instructions are all in Japanese - I don't consider these books user-friendly despite the diagrams unless you are comfortable with the Japanese language. The style of hook tatting has a very traditional ring-and-chain look, is made with heavier threads, and lends itself to bigger projects like shawls, vests, and bags.
