Title: LACEWORK: Tatting Lace Author/Designer: Emiko Kitao
Format/Publication Date: TPB:2012
Publisher: Asahi Original, Japan
Page Count: 64
Book Dimensions(ht. x w.): 10" x 8 1/2"
SUMMARY- There is a table of contents that does not give the contents justice. There is the occasional English word thrown in, and the steps are in roman numerals - but the patterns themselves are all in Japanese. They are diagrammed, however, and that doesn't need to be translated! They are all small motifs and very engaging. An experienced tatter will be able to figure out most of the patterns from the excellent photos and diagrams. All of the tiny motifs would be suitable for placing on cards or stationery.
I was able to get this book directly from Japan without it costing an arm and leg. I'm told the trick to getting the Japanese books is to get them when they are new - they don't stay in print for long. Ms. Kitao's work is really worth pursuing if you like small motifs.
