SUMMARY- The samples given are black-and-white photos. The photos are not clear enough to count stitches. She uses older notation(written rather then symbolic) but breaks down instructions so that they are easier to follow. This would be a good learning book if you're interested in tackling patterns from some of the older magazines but aren't comfortable with the notation. I was disappointed in the pattern named "Pinecone" - doesn't look anything like a pinecone(more of a clover diamond). Patterns are nice otherwise, and fairly basic. This is a book a beginner could tat from.
