SUMMARY- There's a lot packed into this book. The print on the cover of the original is very hard to read, so I've included the cover of the Iva Rose reproduction and can see why she chose not to reproduce the cover in the same way she does her other reproductions. I was finally able to track down an original edition, though it has some spine problems, and the original owner was a needle artist who pasted articles of other samples into the front and back pages of the book, as well as wrote lots of notes and diagrams in the margins throughout the book. The tatting patterns, while what we consider very traditional fare now, are still quite elaborate and plentiful here. The first 76 pages of the book are dedicated exclusively to tatting, and they are not stingy with showing samples of what can be done with this discipline. The netting fascinated me also. I had no idea you could do so many different and practical things with it. The print is pretty small - I have no idea how women kept from going blind by the time they were 30 using gaslight back then to work.
