SUMMARY: I HAVE COMPLETED THE RUN OF THIS TITLE!!! As of August 2014, I was able to finally fill in the first three missing years of this title.
Elizabeth Fisher was one of three Honorary Patrons of NIADA when it formed. Toy Trader has a very folksy feel to it, and acted as a newsboard for passing messages, announcing new dolls and handcrafts, and articles highlighting doll artists, giving lovely little history lessons, announcing the openings of doll museums, etc. This is the blurb from the table of contents page: "THE PRIMARY PURPOSE of THE TOY TRADER is to act as a springboard for dollmakers, collectors, doll dressmakers, and other interested people." It became the official publication of the Dollmaker's Guild in the early 50's.
There's an occasional pattern, but this magazine was aimed primarily at doll collectors. There are some fascinating articles sprinkled throughout the entire run that makes them highly collectable.
Below are the tables of content for those issues I own. The first couple of issues are a single sheet of paper folded in half. I was contacted by a nice gentleman who buys estates in June of 2014, and offered me the first three years of Toy Trader for $200. I couldn't really afford them, but knew I'd never see them again, so my husband and I will be eating beans and rice for a while as I get them paid off! I normally don't pay more than $4-5.00 depending on the condition of the issue. If the Table of contents is provided(and not just an empty outline for it), then there should be a photo as well. It may take this page more time to load as there were over 200 issues by the time Mrs. Fisher retired the magazine, and I chose to leave them all on one page rather than break them up by decade.
Anyone with more information about this publication, or has issues to donate or sell, can contact me through My Contact Page.
