SUMMARY: This publication was a merging of two of Jones Publications' magazines: "Doll Crafter" and "Doll Costuming." "Doll Crafter" was a combination of two other Jones Publications: "Dollmaking" and "Doll Artisan"! While "Doll Crafter" catered exclusively to porcelain doll-makers, this new publication covers a much wider field of interest with beautiful photography and excellent heavily illustrated tutorials(half of them are even photo illustrated!) that do things like introduce how to use new materials on the market, demonstrate new techniques, researching, on-line resources - everything I would want in a magazine that focuses on dolls. There are cloth doll patterns in every issue, and costume patterns that go from traditional/historical to creative whimsy.

Sadly, they stopped publication in 2010 at less than five full years. Leftover subscriptions were rolled over to its sister publications Dolls. According to the editor, Heidi Heideman, this was due to the results they received from the Reader's Survey they put in the September issue. She called it depressing news, but didn't elaborate on whether it was lack of responses or some key fact they got from their questions, which seemed fairly typical to me of these sorts of surveys. It's well worth collecting this magazine for the tutorials and patterns they provided over their history - thank you, Jones Publishing, for a fun and engaging run. "Doll Crafter & Costuming" will be missed.

I've just completed a full run of this title(as of Sept. 2011)!
