SUMMARY: I found the first issue available on ebay. Hopefully, it will tell me what magazine title it took over from, since the numbering of the issues suggests that it actually started in 1981 - that usually means a title change from a previous magazine.

Addendum: Nope. Editor Laura Scott welcomed her readership to the premier issue of "Crochet Digest", but failed to mention the magazine title they were saying farewell to. I'm happy to have the premier issue - I'm always happy to find the first issue of a craft magazine - and it says it is Vol. 12, Number 4. So just to be thorough, I looked at the ISSN to be sure they matched - and they hadn't changed it yet! ISSN: 0278-1978 was for "Women's Circle Crochet" - also published by House of White Birches!
