SUMMARY: This magazine covers a potpourri of crafts - and has done so consistently and faithfully for over 3 decades! The earliest issues drive me crazy: 1)they don't acknowledge the contributors, 2)the instructions aren't that detailed, 3) they give you a scattershot of ideas to use the basic craft for - but you often don't get the pattern except for one of the ideas shown. There were several early projects I would have been interested in doing - but they didn't happen to be the project you got the instructions for, just one of the extra ideas you got with that craft project. It quickly changes to a less frustrating format, however, when Clapper takes over publication.

I love this publication because of the huge variety of crafts it covers, and if something new comes up, they enthusiastically jump in with an article from the best authority they can find on that discipline. They developed a minor case of Wreath-itis in the late 80's that persisted into the 90's - but it never went terminal as it did in "Crafting Traditions". Really, if you're going to publish yet another wreath project, make sure it is so unusual or stunning that I would want it to replace the last stunning design I put on my door! Wreaths are difficult to store, and they are usually seasonal, so my need and desire for projects of this ilk is pretty limited - just saying.

The past six years or so have seen a loss of more time consuming projects to lots of little quick ones - which means less detail and in my mind less creativity. This brings me to Mary Ayres, who is either the busiest crafter on the planet by a factor of 10, or a House name. If it's a House name, why? If Ms. Ayres isn't a fiction, I'd love to know why she has so many projects in each issue throughout the 2000's...

They have a website: https://www.artscraftsmagazines.com/magazines/crafts-n-things-magazine/ .

NOTES: The title changes hands and is now put out by Clapper Publishing Company, Inc., Park Ridge, IL - the same folks who regularly published Pack-o-Fun, a kids crafts/hobby magazine. They added Crafts'n Things as their adult crafts title. There was a delay in publishing, so there was no Jun/July issue...

NOTES: This issue was why I originally started putting together a run, thinking they would revisit one of my favorite hobbies, tatting! They also stopped just giving photos of project variations, and started giving instructions/patterns for everything shown - a HUGE improvement!
