Title: Sew a Dinosaur: 21 Playful Prehistoric Beasts to Follow You Home
Author: Michelle Lipson
Publication Date: Hardcover:1991
Publisher: Sterling Pub. Co. Inc.
Page Count: 128
Book Dimensions(ht. x w.): 12 1/2" x 9 1/4"
ISBN: 0806982128

PATTERN RATING: Star Rating. The patterns need to be enlarged - ideally on a photcopier since they are about 1/4 the size to be made up for. They don't have marked seam allowances on the pattern, but they do have notches and dots for aligning the pieces. The toys they make have good detail.

INSTRUCTION RATING:Star Rating. Ms. Lipson organizes her instructions extremely well, and gives good line illustrations to help you. she even gives you cutting guides to show you which pieces get cut out of which fabrics. She starts with a nice illustration of what scientists think the dinosaur looked like, and a paragraph on what we know about it. She gives you the materials needed, a checklist of pattern pieces, the cutting guide, detailed step-by-step illustrated instructions, then a good photo of what the toy looks like made up. I don't think you can get any better than that.

BONUS MECHANICS RATING:Star Rating. Ms. Lipson brings a wide arsenal of techniques for decorating the hides of her toys, and while each of the techniques isn't gone into in great detail, there is certainly enough there to experiment with, and she gives you a nice photo of the results of each technique. The book is 128 pages of fun. I want to share a quote from the back cover: "Now you can sew-a-saur! Stuff-a-saur! Even design-a-saur!" That says it all.
