PATTERN RATING:Star Rating There are more patterns here than in the shoe book, but the authors didn't use a French Curve or flexible curve to draft their patterns, so lines are really wobbly! I would redraw the patterns before testing them. There are no photos showing any finished examples of their work, which I also found frustrating.

INSTRUCTION RATING:Star Rating Instructions are thorough and well laid out, and have lots of illustration to help the crafter. The illustrations aren't always as detailed as I would like, but then they are covering a LOT of ground, and illustrating it to my satisfaction would have made the book 3 times as long! Obviously, your mileage may vary.

BONUS MECHANICS RATING:Star Rating I've got several books on doll hatmaking, and was extremely glad to add one that goes into so much detail!

SUMMARY- This is another book that is very hard to find now, usually will cost you over $100 when you CAN find it, and really should have been kept in print. The authors clearly love their subject, have made all the mistakes there are to make for us, and have provided an excellent manual for creating hats that is going directly to my "bible" shelf (i.e.- books that have so much useful information in them I end up going to them over and over again to look things up).
