PATTERN RATING: Star Rating. Patterns that are given are minimal in approach, and for the most part, the designer tells you to just trace the photograph of the toy and enlarge to suit yourself. All of the designs are for the 'ugly' toy movement, where the philosophy is "it's so ugly, it's cute". For the most part, the designers succeed. These toys do have personality, and I have no clue what inspired them.

INSTRUCTION RATING:Star Rating. The book gives step-by-step instructions, but no illustrations, so if you don't know what you're doing, you may get stuck. On the other hand, the toys shown are fairly minimalistic(not a lot of gussets in the bunch).

SUMMARY- There's nothing new design mechanics wise in this book. It focuses on the designers and their creations. About the closest you're going to come to a creature you recognize is an earless elephant, but if these are the sort of toys you like, you'll love this book.
