PATTERN RATING:. Patterns are full-size, marked with seam allowances(!) but don't have the grainline marked on the pieces. There is a wide variety of patterns from 10 different doll artists that run the gamut in complexity and styles. The pattern sheets are bound into the book so you'll have to break the spine in order to get a good photocopy, but she doesn't commit the sin of printing a piece across the binding - she will break the pattern piece into two sections to be taped back together instead. All the patterns are interesting and look fun.
INSTRUCTION RATING:. Ms. Gourley gives a great chapter with her basic dollmaking instructions, breaking things down thoroughly and illustrating them with good detail. She is well organized and good at giving visual illustration.
MECHANICS RATING:. This book goes over a lot of different techniques in dollmaking, using the techniques in the dolls given to make.
SUMMARY- This is a very solid and useful book to have for dollmaking. It is guaranteed to spark ideas and give techniques you may not have tried before in enough detail to be useful as a technical manual as well as a pattern book. I was glad I ran across this book!
