PATTERN RATING: . The patterns are full-sized and only need to be copied out of the book. They are well marked, even putting sewing instructions on the pattern itself to guide the crafter. The only negative - and this isn't a pet peeve of everyone - is that the seam guide isn't marked on the pattern pieces, or stated what it should be except in the book instructions themselves. Yes, I can mark the seam allowances on the pattern myself, and now do as a matter of course, but I firmly believe that it should always be given on all pattern pieces - especially if I'm blowing the pattern up to a larger size on a photocopier. If the seam allowance is already marked, I can just trim back down to the 1/4" without the by guess and by golly of figuring it out after the fact.
INSTRUCTION RATING:. The instructions are very well laid out and easy to follow. Simpler animals are in the front of the book. There is a nice variety of animals, and she gives different techniques to individualize them.
SUMMARY- While there isn't much here for the designer in me, she does do some cool things with cabochons and feathers that I hadn't seen anywhere else as of the reviewing of this book. Birds have always been hard for me (I've been working on a phoenix design for years) and Ms. Davis' incorporation of feathers in the design of the Owl and the Eagle are fantastic.
