Title: Make Your Own Southern Belle Cloth Doll and her Wardrobe Author: Claire Bryant
Publication Date: TPB:1999
Publisher: Dover Publications, Inc., NY
Page Count: 50
Book Dimensions(ht. x w.): 11" x 8 1/2"
PATTERN RATING: The wardrobe patterns look great made up, but the doll she used as her sample doll looks pretty sad. A novice probably wouldn't notice the uneven stuffing and one arm longer than the other, but for publication, the author probably should have been a little more careful! The patterns have minimal markings(she does put the grainline arrow, but doesn't mark what it's for!), but are all full-size and collected in one section in the back of the book. You get a really lovely variety of outfits: Bride, Bridesmaid, Garden Party, Plaid Ensemble, Ball Gown, Visiting Costume, Riding Habit, Sunday Best, Nightgown and Robe.
INSTRUCTION RATING: Each ensemble has a single page of instructions, broken down into the articles of clothing that make it up. There are no illustrations to go with the instructions. If you don't already know what you're doing, the instructions aren't going to help you.
SUMMARY- This book wasn't aimed at novice sewers, but if you already have experience, it's a really nice collection of wardrobe patterns to add to your collection.
