PATTERN RATING: Star Rating. I always wince when I see no author name on the title page. In my mind, it means no one wanted to take credit for the designs. In this case, I'm betting my bias is true. Patterns are on grids to enlarge, and show the seam allowance on some of the patterns. They have the old a-b-c markings to help construction. Details tend to be slapdash and generic. The toy doesn't have to look home-made to be hand-made, as a different toy book author succinctly put it. The toys have no real character.

INSTRUCTION RATING:Star Rating. Instructions are step-by-step, but have no illustrations to go with them. If you don't already know what you're doing, the instructions won't help you.

SUMMARY- This book is about making the patterns they give you -- and is mediocre at that. It's not totally a manual for what not to do, but it also isn't a book I'll be tempted to look through again. The sweet kid pictured on the front with some of the toys is the best thing about this book.
